The highlight: pistachio themed street food

It will be an extraordinary journey through the cuisines and cultures of different countries: the Pistachio Street Food Festival aims to enhance not only Italian cuisine, but also international cuisine. Pistachio is an ingredient that lends itself to being incredibly versatile in the kitchen: it can be used as a creme, a pesto, pure or in grains and both in salted and sweet recipes.

The 25 participating stands come from Italy, Mexico, Turkey, China, Argentina and Spain (scroll down to discover the full list). Among the recipes on offer are both classic pistachio recipes and dishes created especially for the event and which can therefore only be tasted at this Festival.

Pistachio Consumption in Germany and Italy

In recent years, interest in pistachios has grown significantly in both Italy and Germany, in terms of production and gastronomy.

Thanks especially to Sicily, Italy remains among the world’s top 20 pistachio producers, with around 4,000 tons per year, and has seen a 42% increase in production compared to the year 2000. Cultivated areas are also expanding, driven by domestic demand and the growing popularity of pistachios in cuisine, increasingly featured in gelaterias, pastry shops, and gourmet restaurants.

In Germany, consumption is also on the rise: according to Euromonitor data, sales of packaged pistachios grew by 9% in 2024 compared to the previous year, fueled by increasing demand for healthy snacks and high-quality ingredients.

The pistachio is also becoming more prominent in the horeca sector, appearing more frequently on menus and in food concepts – particularly in combination with desserts, cheeses, and pizzas. In both countries, the appeal of this “green seed” lies in its nutritional value and culinary versatility, and continues to rise.

Furthermore, in 2024 the hashtag #pistachio surpassed 2.1 billion views on TikTok, going viral thanks to desserts, fusion recipes, and artisanal ice cream.
