True Italian Pizza Week: From October 10th to 16th 2024, Berlin’s biggest pizza event returns

Berlin’s best pizzerias (42) are coming together to offer a special deal: a gourmet pizza and a Spritz for just €16

Dining out in Berlin has become increasingly expensive. Rising costs for restaurateurs - such as raw materials, energy, and staffing - have made it harder to keep prices low. The crisis has affected all types of restaurants. Some street food vendors have raised kebab prices to €8. Meanwhile, several Michelin-starred restaurants, unable to raise their prices further, have closed, five in Berlin alone over the past year. Quality pizzerias are also struggling. The key ingredients - olive oil, flour, mozzarella, tomatoes - are part of a long supply chain. By the time these items arrive from Italy, various intermediaries have significantly increased their costs, compared to other ingredients.

To emphasize the value of quality pizza made with authentic and thus healthier ingredients, Berlin's best pizzerias (in total 42) are joining forces for the eighth edition of the True Italian Pizza Week Berlin. For one week, each participating pizzeria will offer a gourmet pizza (with a choice of two options) paired with an Aperol Spritz or a non-alcoholic Crodino Spritz for only €16. Considering that a simple margherita pizza can now cost €15 and a Spritz €8, this is a remarkable deal. These pizzerias have also gotten creative with their pizza recipes.

Pumpkin cream, mozzarella and truffle sausage; tomato, fiordilatte, ‘nduja, caramelized onions and burrata; sweet potato cream, spicy sausage, provola cheese, roasted fennel and fresh parsley; tomato, garlic, parsley, zucchini and black pork pancetta; artichoke cream, caciocavallo cheese, sun-dried tomatoes, lemon zest and rosemary ricotta; these are just a few examples of what to expect at the True Italian Pizza Week 2024.

In 2023, around 9,000 menus were sold, helping many Berliners appreciate the difference a well-made pizza can offer. Participating pizzerias include Malafemmena (the only Berlin spot in the Top 50 Pizzerias Worldwide), Futura (with two Gambero Rosso Awards, Italy’s official restaurant guide), Standard, W Pizza, Papà Pane di Sorrento, Ammazza che Pizza, Spaccanapoli Nr. 12, among others (here the list).

A quality pizza means a dough that has been left to rest and rise for at least 24 hours, is well hydrated, and made with top-notch ingredients. The result? A highly digestible pizza that won’t leave you thirsty at night and makes you feel like you could easily have another one the next day.
